Use the syllabus for your own academic year
CBSE publishes an official curriculum with subject syllabuses and introductory scheme-of-study information. Begin with the current document for your class and year, then confirm which subjects and combinations your school offers. A list on a board website does not mean that every affiliated school can timetable every combination.

Look beyond the stream label
Science, commerce and humanities can be useful shorthand, but an admissions decision depends on the actual qualification, subjects and published conditions. Write the full subject names and codes. For a mathematics requirement, check whether the university specifies a particular course. Avoid treating Mathematics and Applied Mathematics as interchangeable without confirmation from the receiving institution.
Separate the board from your applicant category
Studying CBSE in Oman does not make every university application identical to one submitted from India. Record the country of schooling, citizenship, residency and intended destination separately. For an Indian programme, investigate the exact admission category and examination requirements. For Oman or another GCC destination, check the relevant school-certificate equivalency and university conditions.
Build preparation around gaps you can name
Review one recent task in each proposed subject. Identify whether the difficulty came from missing knowledge, language, time management or a lack of practice. Discuss a two-week preparation task with a teacher before deciding that a whole field is unsuitable. Keep board examinations, any entrance-test preparation and university research as separate demands in your schedule.
A useful question is more precise than “Can I do business?”
An illustrative enquiry might ask: “For your economics degree in my intended intake, does this CBSE subject combination meet the mathematics requirement?” Include the exact subjects and link to the programme page. Ask separately about selection tests, minimum results and supporting documents. One reply should not be stretched into approval for another programme or university.
Prepare a three-programme evidence sheet
For each programme, keep the accepted qualification, required subjects, expected achievement, selection process, applicant category and official source. Add a date and the person responsible for each unanswered question. Use the sheet in a family conversation so that preferences and verified requirements can be discussed separately.
