Use ICSE and ISC accurately
CISCE’s ICSE is the Class X qualification. ISC follows a two-year course after ICSE or an equivalent examination and leads to the Class XII examination. When discussing university plans, distinguish the earlier school qualification from the school-leaving award you intend to complete. Give the exact award name on an enquiry instead of using “ICSE board” for every stage.

Check the school’s combination and the current regulations
Ask for the subject choices available at your school and the CISCE regulations for your examination year. Confirm compulsory components, combinations, project or practical work and the conditions for changing a subject. Do not use an old online subject list to make a registration decision for a later examination year.
Use future programmes to test the choice
Choose three possible programmes and record their exact subject requirements. Check whether a subject is essential, preferred or simply useful preparation. A student interested in design, for example, may need to investigate both school-subject conditions and the institution’s portfolio process. Neither should be assumed from the course title alone.
Try the work you will be expected to do
Review a representative written task, problem or practical activity with a teacher. Identify the feedback you need and the time available to improve. Subject preference is stronger when you can explain what you enjoy doing in the subject and what you are prepared to practise, rather than relying only on a single mark or someone else’s description.
Plan a change of school or country early
If moving to another curriculum or country, obtain the receiving school’s confirmation of placement, transferred study and outstanding requirements. Keep your academic records and subject information organised. Ask about school-certificate equivalency for the eventual award in the destination where you plan to use it. A school transfer decision and a university recognition decision are distinct.

Bring a decision record to the school meeting
Record your proposed subjects, two examples of schoolwork, possible programmes and unresolved questions. Ask the school to identify a practical preparation step and a date for reviewing the combination. If the family disagrees, separate affordability or location constraints from claims about admission that can be checked with official evidence.
