Begin with the decision in front of you

A student choosing school subjects needs a different conversation from a graduate comparing master’s degrees. Tell us the school curriculum, qualification, preferred language and decision deadline. Omani and expatriate families may have different eligibility routes even when they attend the same school.

Build a picture beyond marks

Grades help identify current preparation, but they do not explain every interest or strength. Use examples: a project the student enjoyed, a task they persisted with, feedback from a teacher and an activity they want to try. An assessment can prompt questions; it should not decide a life path on its own.

Give both the student and family a voice

Write down the student’s priorities and the family’s practical constraints separately before discussing them. Distinguish a fixed constraint, such as an affordable budget, from an assumption, such as a belief that only one degree leads to a secure future.

  • List three possible routes, including one local option.
  • Check recognition and eligibility before paying a deposit.
  • Agree one exploration task and a date to revisit the decision.

Bring a one-page starting brief

Include the qualification, subjects, broad budget, possible destinations and the question you most need answered. A summary is enough for a first enquiry; do not email passport copies or full private assessment reports at this stage.

Frequently asked questions

Can expatriate families use these guides?

Yes. The planning methods are useful across backgrounds, but admission, funding and other eligibility conditions must be checked for your own applicant category.
